How do bidding and Nil work in Spades?
A bid is the number of tricks, also called books, you promise to win. In partnership Spades, the two positive bids form the team contract. Nil is a separate promise to take zero tricks; it earns a bonus if successful and a penalty if broken.
How do Spades scoring and bags work?
Under the standard rules here, making a team contract earns 10 points per bid trick. Each extra trick adds 1 point and 1 bag; reaching 10 bags costs 100 points. Missing the contract loses 10 points per bid trick. Nil is scored separately.
