Who Wins This Spades Trick?

Pick a ruleset and the four cards played in order. The calculator applies led-suit and trump ranking to identify the winner.

The short answer

The winner is the highest legal trump played. If nobody plays trump, the winner is the highest card in the suit that was led. Off-suit non-trump cards cannot win.
Winner
Player 3: 3♠
3♠ is the highest trump in this trick.

Important legality note

This tool evaluates the winner from the cards shown. It cannot verify whether an off-suit card was legal because legality depends on the player’s hidden hand: a player must follow the led suit when able.

Frequently asked questions

Does the highest number always win a Spades trick?

No. Trump beats non-trump, and if nobody trumps, only cards in the suit led can win the trick.

Can this calculator tell whether a play was legal?

It can determine the winner of the four cards shown, but it cannot know whether a player was required to follow suit because it does not know that player’s full hand.

Does it support JJDD?

Yes. JJDD uses Big Joker, Little Joker, 2♦, 2♠, then A♠ at the top of the trump ladder, with 2♦ treated as pure trump.
